I got to ride on one of our big, yellow machines yesterday!!
I've never been on the paver.
I am always in awe of what my guys do on a daily basis.
There are SO many moving parts to paving and they do it like a well-oiled machine, no pun intended.
This thing had a driver (James, to the left of me) who runs the paver itself.
Kimball was on the lower back end, with his own computer, making sure the asphalt went to the curb line and was at a correct depth.
Kody was on the lower right end (in picture), with his own computer, making sure the asphalt was the same depth from end to end.
A dump truck driver (they rotate between seven of them) hooks onto the front of the paver and the paver pushes it as it unloads asphalt onto the road at a certain pace.
The roller, usually Emilio, is behind the paver rolling as it paves.
Adam and Greg are walking on either side of the back end of the paver, raking it evenly prior to the roller.
When there are storm drains, it is painted on the sidewalk, and Greg & Adam quickly shovel out the asphalt as to not bury the storm drain.
The dump trucks, full of asphalt, wait in a perfect line to hook up and go get more, and repeat.
I just sit pretty.
