Missionary Moment - Chile Vina Del Mar Mission

Buenos días!

Kind of a later email than usual so so sorry! It has been a crazy day, we went to the dunes on the beach this morning and playing capture the flag with another zone. Pretty easy win for our zone too, we were even outnumbered by 7 or some odd people. You know just the champs!

This week has been a very fast week. Next week we have our changes so we will see if I´ll stay here or go somewhere else! I would love to stay here, it is way pretty and the other elders and members are super fun to be around, but either way I´ll be grateful!

We had the confirmations of the two little ones that we baptized too. We had two other guys from Haiti confirm them in their native language of creole and it was really pretty emotional. It was an awesome experience for everyone I think.

That is really about all I have this week and we are short on time, I have a meeting to run to here in a sec. I love you all and keep on pressing forward!

And yes we have 80 degree winter weather!

Missionary Moment - Chile Vina Del Mar Mission

Buenas tardes, como están a todos??

We are just having the time of our lives out here folks! Changing lives and stuff!
We had a long week in a way. We had to do a lot but it just seemed like this week was super long. Well the first thing that we did was help put together a house and move stuff into it. I call it the humble house because the family has nothing and with a little help from the members and cutting down some trees we built a house for this family. They are really just a strong little family, I hope that they will be taken care of if I leave this sector. I will send a picture.

Then at the end of the week we had a couple baptisms of some kiddos from Haiti. They are probably the cutest kids ever people. I baptized the little girl who is 9 and my companion baptized the older boy who is 12 and will recieve the priesthood here in a couple weeks! So cool!

I just wanted to share my testimony of this Gospel with all of you. I could have said that about a year and a half ago I didnt want to serve a mission. I was selfish and I really wanted to do what I want to do. Go to school, make money, start living on my own. But I have no doubt that when my little brother walked into my room that summer morning and told me that I needed to serve a mission, the Spirit was there. I`m not here to serve myself, I am here to serve the Lord and through the Gospel everyone can feel the joy and comfort that comes with it. I know that this is the true church of Jesus Christ and that He lives. I work everyday until my legs hurt too much to walk and then I keep on walking and talking because I know what the result will be. I love you all and I hope you have a wonderful week!

Missionary Moment - Chile Vina Del Mar Mission

Buenos días!

Another week down, kind of a boring week but we worked hard and we saw the fruits from that work! We had a ton of activities and they all turned out really well.

The first one we had was super weird. We did like a tour of the church and in 3 hours only like 3 people entered. We talked to a bunch of people and we even talked to a guy who thinks God is a girl. That was a long conversation people. Im just glad that I had the back up of my zone leader.

The next activity was for the young men and young women and they made completos which are basically just like glorified hot dogs but if you tell a Chilean that they go crazy and try to explain the difference. (There is no difference, just more ingredients) And I cooked for the ward which was super fun actually! Only almost lost my hand once.

The last one was super crazy, we had a birthday party for one of the sisters who is sharing the sector with us Elders and it turned out really fun. I learned a little bit more portugese and I learned that there is a missionary in Brazil and she wanted to talk to me today. I dont have time to do that but she sent a message to her mom and said if I were to propose she would say yes. Uh FREAK, stressin out here folks. Mom you can tell Beta that she found me, I didnt find her.

We are doing good here, working hard and having fun. I have some photos I`ll send but I hope you guys have a great week and stay safe! Love you all!

Missionary Moment - Chile Vina Del Mar Mission

Buenos días!

How is everyone doing? I am doing pretty good! We just keep on working hard here! Lots of things happened this week.

So the beginning of the week went really well. We taught and are teaching a family from Venezuela and they are doing really well
and they have a date for baptism at the end of this week! They are so amazing and are seeing miracles every day. But anyways about a day after we were in exchanges and my companion was in another sector and he ended up passing out and hit his head and his hip pretty hard so we ended up going to the hospital and the wait was an unbelievable 5 hour wait just to get him checked. In the end he had a fracture in his hip and is fine now just walking it off really. He is way crazy people.

I have been told that my emails are rough and I need to fix it up a bit but people its a process! I will start actually taking photos and send some your way. But other than that crazy event with my companion we didnt have much happen this week. I learned some pretty awful words in portugese and my comp couldnt stop laughing when I accidentally said the word to a sister from brasil and she just about slapped me. I didnt understand but now I do, learning process.

All in all I´m doing good down here! Pics are coming next week folks! Love you all!

Missionary Moment - Chile Vina Del Mar Mission

Buenos días!

That is right, ladies and gents more and more drunk guy stories are coming your way! But first, how is everyone doing? I hope that you are all doing well and working hard over there. And everyone seems to be rubbing in the warm weather up there so whats up with that!? Its friggin cold down here people, the wind is the WORST.

So the drunk guy chronicles continues. We were on exchanges for the day and I got to be with one of my good buddies Elder Een, he is like 6 foot 8 or something gigantic. But anyway, we were walking to the church to take a quick break and there was a drunk guy talking to some of the sisters and they asked us for help in english and we then walked the poor man home. BUT two days later we saw that same guy in the street and he stopped and asked us if he would prayer for him and then like headbutted me in the chest and stayed there and gave me a hug. I then decided that this is what my life has come to and I gave him a hug back and said the prayer while my companion kept his eyes open. I ended the prayer and he walked away with his little drunk guy hop. Fun times here people!

Love you all and have a great and productive week!

Missionary Moment - Chile Vina Del Mar Mission

Buenos dias!

This week was crazy as usual! As some of you know I had the opportunity to get socked a bit in the jaw by some drunk guy. That was something of a weird experience. I probably would have tried to punch him back but I know better. My comp pushed me away and then he went like full chileno on him and just talked him to death. But hey! He took the card we gave him!

The rest of the week was crazy. We get information on our transfers today but I highly doubt that Im going anywhere. My "son" still has a lot to learn. But we are doing super well here. We had our last district meeting last week and we sent home one of my buddies from the mission. His body is jacked up after 2 years in the mission. But I have photos!

I hope you all have a good week! Stay safe!

Missionary Moment - Chile Vina Del Mar Mission

Note: My kid is not great at sending pictures!

Buenos días a todos!

How is everyone doing today?? I hope you are all doing well. I have just had the craziest week but it is always the "craziest week" so I guess that isnt anything new. I continue to learn a lot of lessons and improve every day. We saw a lot of miracles this week too. Prayers have been answered for sure!

The miracle that I want to share with you guys is about service. We were working like normal and it was getting a little late so we decided to take a quick break in the church and head out after. And we entered the church and the youth were there doing their activity and all of a sudden my companion grabs my arm and we turn around and there is a young girl from Haiti sitting on the bench closest to the door to walk into the church. And we went over and talked to her. I tried using the little bit of french and creole that I know to communicate a little bit easier with her and it worked until I ran out of phrases. But the main point is she ended up coming to the church because she was freezing. Her body was trembling and she didnt have a heavy coat or very good shoes.

She was alone, she didnt come to Chile with family or friends and lives alone. She doesnt have a job and she doesnt have much to live off of. So I did what I could have done in this moment. I gave her my scarf, my gloves, and a beanie we had found in the church and then we fed her. We made some quick quesadillas and some juice and she finally showed a smile. That was what I was waiting for and my companion and I knew what we did was worth it and it was small but big.

That is about all for this week boys and girls, tune in next week for the adventures of Elder J and Elder C here in Chile!

Missionary Moment - Chile Vina Del Mar Mission

I added pictures I found on the mission blog.

Buenos dias de nuevo!

This past week was crazy ladies and gents. We made some dumb decisions and we made some really good decisions. So the first thing that happened on monday was we were on our way to our weekly district meeting but we were in another city so we needed to take a bus to get to where we were going. We were only on the bus for about 10 minutes and the bus hit another car and the person in the car busted the drivers side mirror then the driver got out and it was all history from there. What happened to me you ask? I just laughed because this is my life for 2 years and it was like front row seats to a UFC fight but they were both featherweights fighting like heavyweights. Funny stuff!

The drunk guy or Alex is his name was a guy we met as we are out contacting. Yeah long story short, he thinks hes 5,000 years old and knows the mysteries of the unvierse.. ummm yeah and he told us all this while his friend was trying to sell him drugs. I have never been more entertained! Then when we were leaving he gave me a hug and then kissed me on the neck and the empanada that he was eating slid down my neck and I have never been so close to throwing up in my life. Fun times here in chile.

I love you all and hope you have a good week!

Missionary Moment - Chile Vina Del Mar Mission

Buenas tardes!

Sorry for the late email everybody but it has been a very hectic day. We are being poured on with the rain and so it made it a little harder to do all that we wanted to do. Thus, I am running late on the email. But everything is all good here! The training life is dope, no problems there. I am still trying to prank my companion so if anyone wants to help, that would be great!

With the subject title, the story is that I ended up in an arm wrestle with my companion and then ended up starting a competition with all the elders in my zone. I ended up beating everyone and they said my biceps look like captain americas. So everyone calls me "cap" now and I dont mind going along with that! LOL

The weather here has been a little crazy. Cold and wet but that is the winter here which I am fine with. The members keep on trying to give us their coats but they dont have other coats so we always deny and explain that we have our own and if we need to we can change. The humility of these people is just amazing and I am super grateful to be with them here in Chile.

That is just about all for today! Love you all and have a great week!

Missionary Moment - Chile Vina Del Mar Mission

Buenos días!

How is everyone doing?? I only hope the best for everyone! I am doing crazy awesome and am still alive so I think that is a good sign. Our new sector is a little ghetto. Everyone says to be careful but its really just an opportunity to make some good buddies. I´m sure they are good people! My companion is chileno as well so they wont mess with us. Im basically invincible with him around. Speaking of him, he has been driving me nuts! He keeps on pulling pranks on me and it ticks. me. off. I cant get him back either because I dont have any pranks. So if you guys want to help me out with that, please!

It has been a kind of quiet week, we had a baptism the other day and it turned out beautiful, thanks to our awesome sisters here. They are machines for real! And we learned a lot. My portugese is coming along thanks to an Elder who knows like 5 languages. This dude is crazy!

But that is about all for this week nothing new, just working! Love you all and have an amazing week!

Missionary Moment - Chile Vina Del Mar Mission

Buenos días!

Hey what is going on everyone! I hope that everyone had an awesome week and that you are all ready for an awesome week!!

So first things first, I have an assignment! I was called to be a trainer and they are sending me to open up a new sector! Crazy awesome stuff. They are sending me to a place called Achupallas and I will be training over there. I´m pretty excited! So they have me going to office on wednesday for a trainer meeting and then I will meet my new comp!

We had a ton of fun in this companionship and I hope that I can hang out with Elder Jack after the mission, good man him. We had an experience with some girls this week! Not bragging more of kind of weird. We ended up sitting in a house waiting for the family to be ready for a family home evening and in the end two girls winked at us and we ended up leaving! We did not want to be in that situation...freaky.

Family, friends, anyone else who may be reading this email. I understand that there are many things negative that are happening in the family, or in your lives in general. I understand that people make choices and other people may not agree with those choices. This includes myself. We are not perfect and we have a lot to improve on always, But people, we are adults, or at least able to understand whats going on. My invitation for you all is to be someone better. We can always better ourselves and I hope that this doesnt make this email negative because it isnt meant to be. But please take the invitation.

I love you all and I hope you all have a wonderful week and are all working the hardest that you can!!

Elder Jorgensen

P.S. the picture that looks like weed in a jar is NOT weed peeps. Its just a bunch of "mate" (tea that isnt against the word of wisdom) that was gifted to me from a member lol

Missionary Moment - Chile Vina Del Mar Mission

Buenos días!

Goooood mornnnnniiiinnngg Vietnam! Name that movie. How are you all? I hope you are all working hard and doing the best you can every day! This past week was pretty normal for the life of a missionary. We have a lot of baptismal interviews coming up and so we are always traveling which is kind of nice sometimes just to do something different. We also reactivated a family that has been inactive for almost 7 years! They are a really good family. Then we had a baptism on Saturday and the girl ended up asking for my companion to visit her after his mission...proud of him!

I hope everyone is doing well. I´m going to try something different with the emails and try to read not as many. I think it will help a little bit with time management and I can get a little more done. But keep on sending the emails and I will get back to all of you for sure! Love you all and keep working hard!

I dont have pics this week sorry!

Missionary Moment - Chile Vina Del Mar Mission

Buenos días a todos!

This week was pretty long for me to be honest. Nothing bad happened but I think it was more of an obedience thing for us so it was a little longer. We had a really awesome week, and taught a ton of people. We made new goals and games to play when we talk to people in the street which makes finding people to serve and teach a little more fun! Elder Jack is an awesome example to me and continues to help me along the way here. We have made a plan to have a huge desert party after the mission so we are looking forward to that!

The ward here is super hard to work with. No one wants to help the missionaries and it makes our job a little harder. But we will continue to do what we are doing and have fun while doing it! I loved calling yesterday for mothers day and the opportunity to talk to everyone. Brax seems to be doing friggin awesome in school and work, proud of that kid. Kaydon is the funniest kid, he will be 17 this year so look out ladies you got a "unique" guy coming your way! LOL And Colton is doing awesome too which is good. Glad to hear that everyone is getting along and sharing the love.

I got some pictures together for you guys so here ya go! Love you all and have an awesome week!!

Missionary Moment - Chile Vina Del Mar Mission

Buenos días todos!

I´m so sorry for the late email! It has been a crazy day today. I started the day off with making some calls to the family and then we had our zone activity. We played battle ball and I have some how managed to hurt my back! What a surprise right? But in all seriousness I´m good, I´m just a little sore from all the knocking around.

This week was super crazy. We had a lot of changes in the mission and we have a lot of different responsibilities now. One of them is counting how many hours we are actually outside. That rule is a little much for me but I know it is set there for a reason so I will go along with it. My companion and I are doing really awesome! He is a little frustrated today because he wasnt able to call his family. I dont know why he didnt do it in the morning but all is well.

I dont have my camera with me at the moment but I will for sure send photos next week! And I´m so sorry if I wasnt able to get to all the emails today but I hope everyone is doing well and I will talk to you all soon. Also looking forward to calling mom on sunday!

Love you all and stay safe this week!
P.S sorry for the short email, we are kind of in a hurry today.

Just One More

Sweet Elder Jorgensen face-timed with me Monday morning.
Then he called back that afternoon.
He needed to talk to his mom just a little bit more.
He told me that he's really struggling.
He said that he gets frustrated with other missionaries not following the rules, being lazy and not wanting to work.
He told me that he went on a mission for one reason - to serve.
He said that he gets frustrated with members who don't help, missionaries who don't serve and his lack of patience with all of it.
I told him to focus on him and to not allow others' behavior to effect him.
I told him that he cannot control others' agency.
I told him that all he can do is be his best self.
He said that he's homesick almost every day... but not to the point of wanting to come home... just missing things. I told him that's normal!!
Today is Day 143 in the field!
