Buenas
a todos, ha ido dos semanas y espero que pudieron tener días lleno de good y
paz.
These
2 weeks have been kinda crazy! The week before this past one was a super
difficult one with dropping dates for baptism and loosing hope for having any
sort of success here in Hatillo. There are just so many things with this area
that just make it harder for us to be successful in the area.
The
area itself is about 2 hours (walking we don't have cars) west-east and about 4
hours top-bottom. Our chapel is about 45 minutes from the actual area and there
aren't too many neighborhoods to work out of, so finding new people is a little
bit more difficult because usually your references are people that you had
dropped a month earlier for not progressing or not being interested. So,
they moved on to someone who is interested and will progress. And with all the
imperfections of the area the house I've been living in never actually has
water...never. So drinking water comes from off the water vendors in the street
and if you wanna flush the toilet or do laundry you ask the owner down stairs
to turn on the pump but sadly she'll only leave it on for an hour...thqn back
to square one. Everything here just kinda screams unfortunate. But truth be
told if I won't do this, who will?
This
last however turns some tides however, even though some people were dropped and
moved on we did have a crazy miracle happen to us!
We're
teaching this guy named Marcalle. He's an older man at about 76 years old and
doesn't have a working left arm and leg. He has also spent most his life
smoking and drinking coffee, so many of his teeth are missing, and the rest are
rotten and decayed. He however has all the desires in the world to be baptized,
we started to teach him and he then vowed to stop smoking and drinking coffee
(with time of course), so we kept teaching him. This past week we was down to
the very end of what was left of both,so I proceeded to take the rest of the
coffee and throw it out the door, and take his last cigarette and throw it off
a friggin cliff so he'd never be able to find it again. But we still had some
issues with the wife that he was not married to. Dang it! So this guy who
doesn't have the money enough to pay for more cigarettes even if he wanted had
to get all of his papers, convince his wife to marry him (people here live no
strings attached called union Libre), and get that payed for. Altogether it's
about 6000 pesos. Which is like $120 ). However as I met his partner, she
expressed no desires to get married to listen to whatever we had to say..
shoot. But apparently she wanted to listen in on the rest of the conversation
where we expressed love on what needs to happen in order to get baptized and he
was certain that he'd convince his partner to marry him to get baptized. We
then expressed why the law of chastity was so important and apparently she
wanted to listen to that too and she comes right back and tells us that they
don't share the same bed nor the same home when she's there 3 days out of the
week, she told us that they used to be together but because, "he's a
cripple, we split up". Gosh doing my boy Marcelle dirty like that but it
was certainly a miracle. As he continues to follow the commandments he'll
be baptized this Saturday at 5. Thank you crazy step wife.
We
also had the opportunity to walk more than ever this week to get to some
references that live suns away. Ya'll might even caught my title this
week...yes, it Happened again.
Thievery
is back in motion. This time they tried to take my backpack too but ey my
pictures were in there to teach the plan of salvation. Honestly now that I
think about it I should've given it to him or them (there were 3) but thankfully
they just got the phone so we're chilling.
I
would like to say that looking for miracles in a world that's so hard for
miracle nowadays is pretty tough, but as it turns out Heavenly Father wants to
give them to us.. sooo expect em. They will come, it might take a sec, some
blessings are shipped with Amazon prime but others are shipped a little more
carefully depending on what kind of blessing it is.
I
love and miss you all tons. Keep going, don't stop, and don't give up.
