Mama

For 19 1/2 years, I have had the title of "Mama."
"Mom," "Mommy," "Maaaa," have also been mentioned in that time.
Jackson, Braxton, Kaydon and Colton have all called me by that title for my entire adult life.
It's the greatest honor to have that name.
I always knew I'd be a mom.
It was all I ever wanted in life.
I wanted to have kids.
I wanted to be married and have a big, happy family.
I wanted to be the very best mama that ever walked this planet.
I had dreams of going to rest homes weekly, where we would sing to the lonely people and make crafts.
I wanted to be PTA President and Room Mother in all of my boys' classes.
I wanted to make cookies or brownies or truffles each day for my kids to snack on after school.
I wanted to have lots of animals for them to teach and train and love.
I wanted to have a white picket fence and a big, wrap-around porch.

In the end, I got my wish of being a mama.
And I have been so blessed to be called mama by these four warriors.
No wrap-around porch.
Only one dog.
Only a couple of visits to rest homes, with zero singing.
Cookies and brownies and cake pops on the weekends.
No PTA President or Room Mother.

Instead, WORKING mother.
Single mother.
Always working more than one job.
Singing in the car, rather than rest homes.
Doing everything in my power just to make it to school meetings and appointments... with no chance of being there as room mother, or even volunteer.
Making sure my children know the value of service and teaching them to shovel walks and help with yards and hold doors open and smile and ask people how they are... making sure that we give when we can because we have been helped so much.

Teaching my children work ethic and the lack of entitlement... rather than doing it all for them before they get home from school.
Raising independent, kind and loyal children.
Laughing at dumb jokes and silly movies.
Hiking in mountains.
Eating snow cones and ice cream.

Sitting through hundreds of doctor appointments.
Writing love notes to one another.
Crying with one another for hours on end.
Loving one another.

That is me as a mama.
And, I'm so blessed.

I have had a village, no doubt.
My children are loved by their grandmothers: Nana, Grandma, Grandma Jayne, Great Grandma Nef and Great Grandma Robb, Grandma Sue and Grandma Tina
My children are loved by their aunties: Aunt Carrie, Aunt Tif, Auntie T
My children are loved by women who love me: LaLa, KayKay, Becky Beck and countless others.
My children have had strong, brave, loving women in their lives who have loved them like their own. Without those women, I would have failed.

Happy Mother's Day to all WOMEN.
Mothers, Grandmothers, Angel Mothers, Aunties, Neighbors, Teachers, Nurses, Bus Drivers, Single Mothers, Divorced Mothers, Adoptive Mothers, Mothers who lovingly placed their babies with mothers, Bonus Mothers...

You are seen. You are heard. You are loved.

Jackson's Zone Conference

I love that I have access to the Mission Blog where I can actually get pictures of my boy!
He is NOT good at taking, or sending, pictures.
Whoever it is that takes these pictures, even of the back of his cute head... THANK YOU!!!

Safe Landing

Monday:
Kaydon calls me: "Hey Ma. I did something stupid and now I can't walk."
Me: "Awesome. Not Awesome."
Him: "Meet you at home to go to the doctor..."
Me: Rolling of eyes #5893279342

I get home to get him and he really could not walk.
Kaydon has an extremely high pain tolerance.
That's how I knew this was no joke.

Apparently, he thought it would be cool to jump from the top stair to the landing at school. That would be 18 concrete stairs.
He stuck the landing, though.
Rolling of eyes #... you get the idea.

They were concerned he had ruptured his Achillies tendon.
That was thankfully not the case.
They were then concerned he broke the bone in his heel.
X-rays revealed a whole lot of swelling and blood pooling and it made it very difficult to see the bones.
He is on crutches.
They are hopeful he did not break the bone.
He is on a lot of Ibuprofen.
He is in a whole lot of pain.

We need a frequent comer card!

Missionary Moment - Chile Vina Del Mar Mission

Buenos días todos!

I´m so sorry for the late email! It has been a crazy day today. I started the day off with making some calls to the family and then we had our zone activity. We played battle ball and I have some how managed to hurt my back! What a surprise right? But in all seriousness I´m good, I´m just a little sore from all the knocking around.

This week was super crazy. We had a lot of changes in the mission and we have a lot of different responsibilities now. One of them is counting how many hours we are actually outside. That rule is a little much for me but I know it is set there for a reason so I will go along with it. My companion and I are doing really awesome! He is a little frustrated today because he wasnt able to call his family. I dont know why he didnt do it in the morning but all is well.

I dont have my camera with me at the moment but I will for sure send photos next week! And I´m so sorry if I wasnt able to get to all the emails today but I hope everyone is doing well and I will talk to you all soon. Also looking forward to calling mom on sunday!

Love you all and stay safe this week!
P.S sorry for the short email, we are kind of in a hurry today.

Shooting & Riding

Matt told everyone that he had two jobs on Saturday: take Heidi shooting and take Heidi out on the horses.
He did not disappoint!!

First up was shooting.
He took some epic videos of me shooting big guns!
It was the funnest.
I like the 357 Magnum the very best.
I kept asking him to re-load it for me over and over and over again.
And he kept re-loading it for me over and over and over again.

Then, it was off to go on a short horseback ride.
The amount of work that he has to put in to get five people on horses happily is a LOT.
He never complained. He never acted like this wasn't his favorite thing to do ever.
He did it.
I was in Heaven.
Wasabi was a bit naughty, but by the end, she was good!
The weather was perfect.
And this girl was in Heaven!!!!

Just One More

Sweet Elder Jorgensen face-timed with me Monday morning.
Then he called back that afternoon.
He needed to talk to his mom just a little bit more.
He told me that he's really struggling.
He said that he gets frustrated with other missionaries not following the rules, being lazy and not wanting to work.
He told me that he went on a mission for one reason - to serve.
He said that he gets frustrated with members who don't help, missionaries who don't serve and his lack of patience with all of it.
I told him to focus on him and to not allow others' behavior to effect him.
I told him that he cannot control others' agency.
I told him that all he can do is be his best self.
He said that he's homesick almost every day... but not to the point of wanting to come home... just missing things. I told him that's normal!!
Today is Day 143 in the field!

PCMC

Friday night, Matt and I went up to Primary Children's after having dinner with Nana, Pops, Grandma and Grandpa Nef.
Matt's nephew has twins: Dante and Lily.
They are five months old.
They are very sick.
They were both born with no muscle tone.
They are unable to cough, etc.
They both came down with the common cold a few weeks ago and became deathly ill.
They are getting there, but are still very fragile.
I explained the anxiety that I get in that hospital to Matt.
The sounds, the smells, the sights.
My boys have been there way too much.
A lot of bad things have happened there, along with a lot of incredible miracles.
I recognize the good, but the scary also stick in my memory.

We found their room and washed up.
Their great-aunt was there with them so that their mommy and daddy could actually go on a date.
Lily was getting her treatments done, so I asked to hold Dante.
The nurse was worried about me with all of the tubes, etc.
Matt kind of giggled.
I picked him right up and loved on that baby boy.
I even got a little smile.

Then it was time to switch.
Lily bug went right to sleep on my shoulder.
I just loved on her and loved on her.

They have a very, very long road ahead of them.
The genetics testing that has been done thus far has shown nothing.
Physical and Occupational Therapy are going to be ongoing.
Lots of cough assist, suctioning, etc.
They have the sweetest mommy and daddy.

Then we went looking for this badass Sassy Pants.
It took us a while to find her but we finally did.
Miss Claire is the toughest little girl I have the honor of knowing.
I tickled her hand, gave her lots of kisses and whispered to her that she is a badass.
She is in a deep coma, but squeezed my hand so tight.
Her mommy and daddy are not giving up.
And without her speaking a word, I know she is, too.
Cancer is the most awful thing.
Cancer in children should be against the rules.
This little love is a fighter.
I love her so.
I love her mama.
I pray that they will have comfort, peace and strength beyond their own.
