Bienvenidas
todas! Como esta! I'm super excited to post my email today! First mondays are P
days or prep days, here I rest up a bit and prepare myself once more before my
week again starts and our work resets and i'm back to work.
This
place is paradise, living here on an island is such a blessing, it's really
humid and super warm all the time, and apparently it's like the cooler
time of the year which is the only thing i look forward to when leaving this
place once I get my visa, is not taking on the heat and humidity during the
summer time. My flight was just okay, wasn't too bad and stressful and not
too fun either. I went straight from my flight to orientation and a
lecture for all the new missionaries. Something lame is that I had missed my
flight the day I was supposed to leave without receiving the itinerary for
the new flight I was supposed to take. But I was blessed and im
grateful to come here and be here when I do. That night I stayed with 5
other missionaries and the next morning I drove to the complete
opposite side of the island from San Juan, which is the Capital all the
way here to an area called Aguadilla. My friends there is so much work to do
here, My companion is super proud of our work we've done here, in the time that
i got on Thursday his old companionship he averaged about 2 new amigos a day
for a week and in the time that i've been here we're up to almost 30. He knows
I'm super passionate about the work I'm doing here, i'm not good at Spanish in
any way but people I come to talk to and teach know exactly what I'm trying to
share and I hope they appreciate that too. I'm really really grateful for
this work and the opportunity our Heaven Father gave me to serve here and share
my testimony with as many of God's children as I can.
Culture
here is honestly kind of funny, imagine if America and Mexico had a baby, that
would be Puerto Rico. Their spanish is very different and mumbly, something
that i noticed too is that everybody drops their S's so Como Esta? or Esta
Bien? becomes como eta? and Eta bien? I love it so much, people here are so
cute and kind but they are undoubtedly prideful people, having no desire to
change what they have here. which is totally okay, and i'm falling in love with
them all everyday.
Something
you might all find interesting is 1. Live with one other companionship, Elder
Thomas, and Elder Pawlowski. and my Companion Elder Nelson who is 6'4 and 250
lbs. and he has such a kind heart, he has been here for about a year and a
half. and it's his first time teaching anyone. so it's a bit of a learning
curve for us both. I'm super blessed to have him without a doubt. and the appartment
we live in btw is a large area that sits right about a tire shop. turns out
roads here are very bad so if you own a tire shop you're sitting pretty well
with living here. The next thing is that every Saturday right in front of our
home loads of the people from this area host a flea market called a
Pulgero which directly translates to flee. There they sell all types of
things, mostly junk, but each and every item these people once held close to
them and their hearts so it's cool to see what they bring every week. Other
items include, fake branding like supreme or oakley, animals like bunnies and
birds and other people sell what they grow. And that can be anything
honestly.
The
last fun fact that I found a little crazy is that like the United States have
stray dogs and cats, here there are stray horses, boar pigs, cats, dogs,
chickens, and Iguanas. nuts i know.
Well
I love you all, my time here is super tight, so I may not end up reading your
emails you send this way until next Monday sadly, but that goes to show how
much work I do here. No time to waste. But don't let that keep you guys
from sending to me! I'd love to here for each of you!!
Con
Amor Siempre Siempre Siempre!
Pictures
will be sent on another email! :)
